The use of three colors, Sanguine (an earth red), black and white on toned paper is a classic technique called trois crayons (three pencils).  The toned paper is usually a cool grey, warm grey or a tan color.  This is our family member, Rocky, a mix of Yellow Lab-Golden Retriever (at least).  His color is an important part of capturing his character so the three color option on toned paper is a better choice here than just black charcoal on white paper.
