New Focus

The creative process is not a practical thing at all. As a matter of fact, the conditions that are conducive to creativity can be very difficult to maintain in the face of endless practical demands, even at the best of times. Because demands on my time and attention have increased over the last year, I have had to really decide what I am going to focus on. These images are a sampling of my recent efforts. They are oil sketches made to study realistic, figurative painting and anatomy. This is very necessary for the kind of figurative work I would like to do in the future. It also benefits the discipline I have decided to put the most emphasis on: Portrait Painting and Drawing. While I hope to be able to continue plein air painting, for the love of it, and still life, my priority will be actively seeking portrait commissions. I am fortunate to have lined up two great commissions this year and will include news about them in later posts, as they are completed. Between commissions I will be pursuing my own figurative work. I will continue teaching some classes as well. If you are interested in my classes coming up this Fall, including one coming up in Ocean City MD, you can see them and register for them Here.
